Extensive discussion of the by laws, among other issues, took place. Members actively participated in all the discussions, requesting more information and asking good questions.

Carolie Mullen, LWV US
Carolie gave a well-received discussion of how local Leagues can build leaders. She brought along a CD of resources, which has been posted here
Other materials included a handout on League management models and suggested divisions of work, and a reminder that the President does not do it all! (with a full page of jobs that the President does do...)

New Mexico's Budget System
Ruth Hoffman of the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry discussed where New Mexico's tax revenues came from, and how the (non-capital) budget was developed. The State's top priorities are
- Health, Hospitals and Human Services
- Higher Education
- K-12 Public Schools
- Public Safety
Ruth also works with New Mexico Voices for Children, and distributed their Citizen's Guides to the New Mexico Tax System and the State Budget.

The keynote speaker was Doug Fernandez, KOAT-TV7 anchorman. Mr. Fernandez talked about his long career and travels, interviewing newsmakers and traveling to exotic locations to find them. Here, he is pictured with LWVNM President Katherine Campbell (left) and LWV CNM President Diane Goldfarb, who handled arrangements for the Convention. (Diane was succeeded by Jan and Olin Bray.)
