2024 Primary Election

Timeline:

Fri Apr 19 Online application for absentee ballots opens. Starting this year, New Mexicans now have the option of permanent vote-by-mail.
Tue May 7 Last day to register by mail (you can still use same-day registration on election day)
Early Voting begins
Tue May 21 Last day to request a mail-in ballot
Tue Jun 4 Mail-in ballots must be received by this date
Tue Jun 4 Early Voting ends
Tue Jun 4 Election Day

You can register, check on your registration, or request an absentee ballot or permanent absentee status at the Secretary of State's election portal nmvote.org.

Absentee Voting

Request an absentee ballot by filling out an application and returning it to your local County Clerk. How to apply:

Absentee ballot requests through the Secretary of State’s website for the 2024 Primary Election will be accepted until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Registering to Vote

Who’s eligible to vote in New Mexico? 

You can register to vote online at the NM Secretary of State website.

Newly registered voters who submitted the registration form by mail will need to submit some proof of ID when they vote:
