Legislative Priorities for the 2026 Legislative Session

SM1 Uniform Redistricting Criteria Sen. FigueroaThis memorial urges the United States Congress to pass legislation to require uniform redistricting criteria and uniform process standards for the United States House of Representatives apportionment and to prohibit states from midcycle redistricting unless court-ordered.

SM__ Create Redistricting Task Force Senator FigueroaThis would request that the Legislative Council create a Redistricting Task Force to recommend procedures and legislation to guide redistricting for state offices following the 2030 Census. The Task Force would include legislative appointments along with others. The majority of the Task Force would be from the public.

Increases the penalty for illegally diverting water

SB18 Clear Horizons Act Senator Stewart

This bill sets clear pollution reduction targets.

SB1 Interstate Medical Licensure Act Senator TrujilloThis would have New Mexico join the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which facilitates doctors licensed in other states to become licensed in states that are members of the Compact. LWVNM also supports all of the other health care compact bills: HB10; HB11; HB12; HB13 HB31; HB32; HB33; HB34; and HB50.

HB127 Medical Board Expedited Licensure Act Rep. SzczpanskiThis would require the New Mexico Medical Board to grant expedited licenses to practice medicine to qualified applicants. It would further require the Medical Board to establish a registry for out-of-state telehealth providers.
