Legislative Priorities for Health Care 2026

LWVNM believes that every New Mexico resident should have a comprehensive level of health care with “seamless” coverage and simplified administration.

LWVNM supports:

HB24 Professional Recruitment & Retention Act Representative CatesWould provide loans to health care professionals to purchase homes through the Mortgage Finance Administration. This would be based upon the length of their service.

HB68 Health Care Strategic Recruitment Plan Funding Representative Anaya

Would provide funding for the Health Care Strategic Recruitment Program in the Workforce Solutions Department. The program provides services for qualified health care providers in health care fields where there is a shortage.

HB127 Medical Board Expedited Licensure Act Representative SzczpanskiThis bill would require the New Mexico Medical Board to grant expedited licenses to practice medicine to qualified applicants. It would further require the Medical Board to establish a registry for out-of-state telehealth providers.

SB1 Interstate Medical Licensure Act Senator TrujilloThis bill would have New Mexico join the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which facilitates doctors licensed in other states to become licensed in states that are members of the Compact. LWVNM also supports all of the other health care compact bills: HB10; HB11; HB12; HB13 HB31; HB32; HB33; HB34; and HB50

SB11 Nurse Loan Repayment Program Senator LopezWould set up a program to reimburse nurses based upon their length of service. There would be a special focus on service in underserved areas.

SB13 Healthcare Gross Receipts Deduction Senator FigueroaThese deductions for health care services were to end in 2028. This bill extends the reductions to 2031 and includes reductions for coinsurance payment
