Tribal Law Study, 2021
Dear LWVNM Members,
The members of the LWVNM Tribal Law Study Committee invite you to join them in a Zoom meeting on Saturday, October 16, at 11 am. This will be an informational meeting to acquaint members with the progress of the study which was adopted in April at the LWVNM Convention. The objectives of the study are (1) to educate ourselves about the complexities of enforcing Indian law and the complexities of supporting tribal sovereignty, (2) to identify possible legislative solutions for supporting tribal sovereignty and tribes at the state level, and (3) to develop a position for advocacy.
In studying this topic, the committee has looked at four specific areas: health care, education, economic development, and criminal justice.
We hope that you can attend on Saturday. If not, we plan to record the presentation for viewing at a later date.
