The League leads the Fair Districts for New Mexico Project, promoting fair and transparent redistricting for New Mexico and gearing up for legislation in the 2025 session. League Day at the Legislature and the Legislative Reception

The Legislative Reception (for members and invited guests) was held on January 29th from 5:30 to 7:30 in the Santa Fe Room at La Fonda. Our speaker was Laura Paskus, a reporter on environmental issues who is currently a senior producer for NMPBS.

League Day at the Legislature was Friday, January 30, 2026.

10:30– 11:15 Richard Anklam – President & Executive Director, NM Tax Research Institute, “Budget and Tax issues in the 2026 session”
11:15 – 12:00 Kristina Fisher – Associate Director, Think New Mexico, “Health Care Compacts in the 2026 session”

The League also had two tables in the East Hall of History from 8 am to 2:30 pm.

Legislators Now Have District Legislative Aides

The League of Women Voters of New Mexico would like want to congratulate the Legislature for taking a great step forward in the modernization of the New Mexico Legislature by enabling - the legislators to hire now have District Legislative Aides (DLAs). The funding for the DLAs is included in House Bill 1 that funds other legislative functions.

The operation of the District Legislative Aides is spelled out in this NMLegis handout: 27. LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT OFFICES.
